What is the Digital Kit?

The Digital Kit is a Spanish Government initiative aimed at helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the self-employed to go digital. However, it is important to understand how it actually works and who benefits.

How does the Digital Kit work?

1. SubsidiesSMEs can receive vouchers of up to 12,000 euros to go digital, but this money does not go directly to them. Instead, it goes to the Digitising Agents, which are accredited companies to implement the technological solutions.

2. Process: Interested companies should apply for the voucher and then choose a Digitisation Agent who will implement the necessary solutions.

Requirements to become a Digitising Agent

To become a Digitisation Agent, the only clear and straightforward requirement is to have a minimum annual turnover of 35,000 euros. This means that:

• Experience is not necessary: Any company, regardless of its previous experience in digital solutions, can become a Digitising Agent if it meets the invoicing requirement.
• Billing DiscriminationCompanies that have extensive experience in digitisation but do not reach the minimum turnover of 35,000 euros. cannot to become Digitising Agents. This exploits a loophole that allows companies with no track record in the sector to enter the programme, while leaving out qualified professionals who do not reach that level of revenue.

Problems and Consequences

1. Unfair CompetitionThis requirement can lead to unfair competition. Large and well-resourced companies can monopolise the market, as it is easier for them to meet the minimum turnover and obtain accreditation, leaving small companies out of the game.

2. IntrusivenessCompanies with no experience in digitisation can enter the programme and offer services, which can lead to inferior quality and market saturation with inexperienced providers.

3. Market Concentration: By centralising support to a few large suppliers, diversity and fair competition is limited, harming small businesses that could offer high quality services.

Conclusion

The Digital Kit aims to modernise SMEs, but its implementation presents significant challenges. The lack of strict requirements beyond minimum turnover allows inexperienced companies to benefit, while qualified professionals are excluded if they do not meet the financial criteria. For SMEs and freelancers, it is crucial to understand these details when choosing a Digitisation Agent, ensuring they receive quality services that truly contribute to their effective digitisation.
